Garage Floor Coatings FAQ
Thinking about upgrading your garage floor? You probably have a few questions. At Garage Floor Masters, we believe in being transparent, so here are answers to the most common things Knoxville homeowners ask us about epoxy and polyaspartic floor coatings.
Cost & Warranty
How much do your polyaspartic (epoxy) coatings cost?
!
"
Most projects range between $5–$7 per square foot, depending on the size of the space and floor condition. Additional repairs or custom colors may add to the total. We’re always upfront with pricing and provide free estimates.
Do you offer a warranty?
!
"
Yes! Our coatings come with a 20-year residential warranty and an 8-year commercial warranty, protecting against chipping, peeling, and delamination.
Do certain colors cost more?
!
"
We feature the 15 most popular East Tennessee flake colors at no extra cost. Custom color blends can be ordered at an additional price.
Installation & Process
Is it really done in one day?
!
"
Yes! Most garage floors can be prepped, coated, and top-coated in a single day. By the next morning, you can drive on your floor again.
Do I need to be home during installation?
!
"
Not at all. Many of our customers choose to go about their day—we’ll handle everything and leave your garage clean when we’re done.
Is the garage floor coating process dusty?
!
"
No. We use industrial grinders with vacuum attachments that collect dust on the spot. Your garage stays clean throughout the process.
Is an acid wash or floor grinding best for a floor coating?
!
"
We always use diamond grinding or shot-blasting. Acid washing is outdated and doesn’t create the same strong bond between the coating and the concrete.
Product Performance
What is the life expectancy of polyaspartic coatings?
!
"
With proper installation and care, our floors can last 20+ years. That’s why we back them with one of the strongest warranties in the industry.
Do I have to reseal my coating?
!
"
No. Unlike DIY kits or concrete sealers, polyaspartic coatings don’t require resealing. The clear topcoat protects against wear for decades.
Will polyaspartic coatings discolor over time from sun exposure?
!
"
No. Unlike epoxy, polyaspartic coatings are UV stable—they won’t fade or yellow in sunlight.
Are my floors scratch resistant?
!
"
Yes, they resist scratches, abrasions, chemicals, and hot tire marks. However, like any floor, extreme abuse (dragging sharp metal, for example) can still cause damage.
If my concrete cracks, will my coating crack?
!
"
If new cracks form in the concrete, they can transfer through the coating. We repair cracks during installation, but future shifts in the concrete slab can still create movement.
What happens if I drop something and it chips the floor?
!
"
It’s rare, but if damage occurs, we can perform spot repairs to restore the surface.
Specific Situations
Are you able to fix areas of pooling or dripping before installation?
!
"
Yes. We repair pits and cracks, and we can address low spots that collect water to improve drainage and performance.
Can you coat my driveway with polyaspartic coating?
!
"
We don’t recommend it for large outdoor driveways, but it’s perfect for garages, patios, porches, pool decks, and basements.
Can wood steps be coated with polyaspartic as well?
!
"
Yes, we can coat wood steps leading from your garage for a seamless finish.
Do the concrete expansion joints get filled during installation?
!
"
We coat in and out of the joints. If you’d like the joints caulked or filled, we can do that as an add-on service.
Can expansion joints be filled after installation?
!
"
Yes. Expansion joints can be filled later, though most homeowners prefer them coated and left flexible.
Can you coat over the felt pad between the floor and wall?
!
"
Yes, our installers can work around and over these areas, but we may recommend a floor-to-wall cove for the cleanest finish.
Can my epoxy garage be applied when it’s cold out?
!
"
Yes. Polyaspartic cures in a wide range of temperatures, so we install year-round in Knoxville.
Is it normal to have bubbles in epoxy floors the day after installation?
!
"
That can happen with traditional epoxy if it wasn’t applied correctly. With our polyaspartic system, bubbling isn’t an issue because of superior adhesion and curing.
Installation Team
Do you train and certify your installers?
!
"
Yes. Our team is fully trained and certified to properly install both epoxy and polyaspartic floor coatings. Experience and preparation are the keys to a coating that lasts.
Cleaning & Maintenance
How often do I need to clean my new coated floor?
!
"
Most homeowners just sweep or rinse as needed. Our coatings resist stains and dust, so cleaning is quick and easy.
What’s the best way to clean a polyaspartic coated floor?
!
"
A simple mix of water and mild soap is all you need. Avoid harsh acids or abrasive cleaners.
